This is a caricature I really had fun creating. Last month I was asked to create a caricature for a wedding guest signing board, of a bride and groom inspired by the Fr Ted show.

Meet Cathy and Thomas from County Kerry. Cathy’s sister contacted me to order a guest signing board as a wedding gift for them. From all the details she gave me, the main one was that they were both massive fans of the iconic Fr Ted TV show.

Fr Ted was an 90’s Irish sitcom about three Irish priests and their mad tea making housewife, who lived on ‘Craggy Island’. The show sadly ended in 1998 after the sudden death of one of actors and creators, Dermot Morgan; but to this day it still has a large fan base.

The infamous Fr Ted’s house that was used in the show, can be found in Co. Clare and there is now an annual Fr Ted inspired festival on the Arran Islands called Tedfest.

I decided to create the caricature of both the bride and groom running out of the gates with Fr Ted’s house in the background. Thomas plays GAA for his local Curragh GAA club, so I thought it would be fun to create his caricature in his blue wedding suit, sporting the Curragh GAA jersey while waving a Kerry scarf.

The background of green fields, blue sky, a few scattered sheep and the large grey house, complete the fun composition and fill the board with colour. Sadly there are no mad dancing nuns or priests kicking cardinals, but It’s fitting for a Fr Ted fan.
